What Have We Done?

Since its founding in 1973, in Richmond, Virginia, the Learning Disabilities Council has:

PRESENTED two Community Conferences on Learning Disabilities offering a total of almost one thousand participants discussions with nationally recognized educators, diagnosticians, and legislators.

PRODUCED Characteristics of Learning Disabilities, a 15-segment graduate level television course, in cooperation with WCVE-TV and the University of Virginia.

ESTABLISHED a Speakers' Bureau to serve the Central Virginia community.

PRODUCED Information Packets on Learning Disabilities, targeted and distributed to Virginia doctors, ministers, guidance counselors, attorneys and judges.

DONATED The Bransfield Collections, books on learning disabilities placed in Richmond area public libraries.

PRESENTED Juvenile Justice and Learning Disabilities Conference for judges, lawyers, and probation officers.

ESTABLISHED a Media Library on learning disabilities for community use.

PRESENTED LD:HELP, a conference focusing on learning disabled adults.

ORGANIZED Understanding Learning Disabilities: A Parent Workshop for Richmond area parents (two workshops).

ORGANIZED First Statewide Information Sharing/Goal Setting Conference on Learning Disabilities, a multi-disciplinary conference.

FOUNDED Richmond Support Group for Adults with Learning Disabilities.

MAINTAINED Information Line, a telephone service offering information and referral to parents and professionals.

PUBLISHED "Support Groups for Adults with Learning Disabilities: How to Start, Facilitate, and Maintain a Group."

PUBLISHED eight editions of "Learning Disabilities Directory" and distributed, free of charge, more than 60,000 copies to individuals in need of information.

DEVELOPED and published "Understanding Learning Disabilities: A Parent Guide and Workbook," now in 3rd edition.
